We are embarking on an initiative to deliver a new set of core services that will allow our own product teams, as well as external 3rd parties, to efficiently consume and manipulate enormous data sets and operate at the truly massive scale we need to in order to service the country's health information needs. Position Summary:
We are looking for strong candidates to join our teams working in the Platform as a Service group. A critical piece of our next-generation platform work revolves around Identity and Access Management. It is the central and core security infrastructure that all users and services will need to register and go through to ensure that our platform is secure from a service-service authorization as well as for user’s access control privileges. Additionally, this work is using current standards and protocols like OpenID Connect, oAuth, SAML and SMART on FHIR. This work is involves front end and backend work as general applications to leverage logins across multiple services and consenting to different applications are also part of this teams’ charter. This area is one of the most complex, and frankly dangerous, in healthcare, so we need candidates with a strong attention to detail and a strong understanding of these security domains.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:Technical Execution

• Produce accurate, unambiguous technical design specifications to the appropriate detail
• Ability to critique technical documentation as needed
• Deliver customer value in the form of high quality software components and services in adherence with policies on security, performance, longevity and integration testing
• Proactively identifies and proposes new, alternative technology in order to create scalable implementations and achieve results.
• Accurately estimate the size of development tasks; challenge other during estimation

• Drives the t-shirt sizing process, providing guidance to the team on sizing of epics and stories during the release planning stage
• Understand and follow coding conventions, architectures, and best practices; hold other members of the team accountable for doing so
• Write, debug, and deploy code to production; deliver timely fixes
• Participates in team member interview process as needed; influences final hiring decisions.
• Scale systems to meet business demand
• Deploy systems to meet availability targets (HA/DR)
• Adhere to DoD (definition of done) as part of the sprint, including unit tests, functional testing, code reviews, no regressions, bug fixes, documentation and adhere to best coding practices
• Perform peer code reviews in order to ensure quality standards.

Contributions to the Team

• Act as the subject matter expert for area of assignment
• Take ownership of what the team builds after the release; consider customer adoption as success criteria
• Contribute to agile ceremonies(i.e. daily stand-up, sprint planning, readouts and retrospectives) to improve team performance
• Volunteer for work in the backlog and commit to quality delivery; Coordinate efforts across the team to ensure completion and effectiveness
• Drive self-organization; help determine how the team functions in collaboration with your peers
• Serve as Scrum Master as assigned and ensure high team effectiveness and efficiency

Cross functional Coordination and Communication

• Work collaboratively across the Platform and Product organizations to ensure alignment towards business goals
• Builds strong relationships with cross-functional team members and business stakeholders
• Share business and technical learnings with the broader engineering and product organization, while adapting approach for different audiences

Mentorship of Others

• Advise and train members of the team to maximize overall productivity and effectiveness of the team.

Education, Experience, & Skills Required:

• 8-10 years of experience in an engineering role
• Experience in an Agile environment preferred
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
• Significant software engineering skills, object-oriented programming and computer science experience
• Knowledge of at least one programming language such as: Javascript (nodejs), Java, C#, C++, Perl, or Python
• Familiarity with Unix/Linux, Big Data, SQL, NoSQL, and various other technologies
• Exposure to distributed computing tech (Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Cassandra, ElasticSearch), Microservice and API design
• Experience deploying or managing applications in an AWS or private cloud environment
• Familiarity with front end technologies like React Redux
• Knowledge of security principles like IAM, SSO, SAML, OpenID Connect, OAuth
