About Starburst Galaxy
Our latest product, Starburst Galaxy, provides all the benefits of the best-in-class MPP SQL engine, Trino, on an easy to use, fully-managed and enterprise-ready SaaS platform designed by the open source project's original creators and experts. Having announced General Availability during this year’s AWS re:invent conference, we’re now aggressively hiring to meet the demand and feature requests we’re getting from our customers.
About the role
As an infrastructure engineer on the fully distributed Starburst Galaxy Reliability, Scalability, & Efficiency team, you’ll own the reliability, scalability and efficiency (performance/$) of Starburst Galaxy SAS as we grow. You will help design and build core infrastructure around Trino of the Galaxy Product itself, as well as build “the machine that builds the machine” that is used to operate our SAS at scale. Daily tasks will include developing the backend infrastructure related to product features, building operational tooling, supporting our product in production, and driving collaboration with various stakeholders around the reliability, scalability and efficiency of Starburst Galaxy.
Responsibilities
- Own and optimize the reliability, scalability, and efficiency of Starburst Galaxy service at all levels
- Design and build lower level primitives around the Open Source Trino query engine for use by other product engineering teams
- Design and build the core operational infrastructure of the Starburst Galaxy service following the immutable cloud infrastructure paradigm
- Provide considerate and timely review of your peers' pull requests and design proposals
Some things we will look for:
• Passion for Software Engineering in general, an interest in Infrastructure Engineering in particular
• Cloud infrastructure architecture and orchestration experience
• Experience related to:
○ Developing backend services in Java
○ Building custom operational/platform tooling
○ Using, operating, developing for or contributing to Trino (previously Presto)
○ Immutable infrastructure
