Dive into an empowered firmware engineering role. You will design, implement, and deliver high quality firmware which controls hundreds-of-thousands of SmartSense’s networked devices. You will be a key member of an Agile Engineering team producing a variety of firmware running on a spread of embedded processors, (8-bit microcontrollers up to the brand new Linux-enabled ARM microprocessors). You will learn to interface with numerous different sensor technologies and deliver sensor data via multi-modal communication channels. Choose when to hack and when to invest. You’ll apply judgment to where we can get the most benefit for our efforts, and you’ll help guide high-level architectural decisions.

Core technologies:

Embedded systems, firmware development in C, wireless communication, real-time operating systems, software architecture, Linux, TCP/IP, encryption, source control, bootloaders, low-level hardware (schematics & PCBs), test equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, etc.)

 

Core qualifications:

BS, MEng, or MS (preferred) degree in EE, CE, or CS, 5+ years of related experience, ability to deliver results with little supervision, big-picture vision, attention to small details, natural curiosity, and experience in a fast paced environment where priorities change and multiple projects compete for your time

WITHIN 3 MONTHS, YOU'LL...

  • Immediately start writing firmware for our next generation sensor platform
  • Write internal documentation for your firmware
  • Participate in support engineering
  • Regularly interface with the hardware, software, and QA teams to learn the nuts and bolts of SmartSense’s sensor platform (and your teammates)

WITHIN 6 MONTHS, YOU'LL...

  • Design and write firmware for all of our hardware devices
  • Influence next generation hardware, firmware, and server design strategies
  • Be able to own the entire planning, scoping, design, and implementation of new firmware projects
  • Participate in team-wide project estimation and scoping

WITHIN 12 MONTHS, YOU'LL...

  • Contribute substantially to engineering team efficiency
  • Train, mentor and influence your peers
