PURPOSE:

The Predictive Index is a technology company and the leader in talent optimization. We are also an award-winning best place to work (Inc., Glassdoor, Boston Business Journal, The Boston Globe).

Our mission is “Better work, better world," and we take great pride in PI’s power to supercharge workplace relationships and culture to achieve the unthinkable. We’re our own best case study! You’ll be working toward a mission that inspires you, and you’ll be surrounded by fun, smart, driven people day in and day out.

There’s a reason more than 8,000 companies—including Drift, the LA Clippers, Hugo Boss, Docusign, and Nissan—trust PI to help them hire top talent, design winning teams, and develop leaders at every level. Come discover how we empower our clients to solve their biggest challenges and make their business dreams come true.

POSITION:

We’re looking for an entrepreneurial lead engineer who has experience managing a small team of software engineers. This is a high visibility role leading the implementation of a product central to PI’s strategic goals. The team you will lead has about 4 engineers and is part of a cross-functional scrum team with Product, Design, and Science. You will be the key technical resource as part of the leadership group determining which problems to solve, the ideal solution, scope, and resource requirements to drive your product to success. We are in the early design stage of rebuilding our core platform so strong vision, architectural, and project management skills are a must. You will report directly to the Director of Engineering, but you are the CEO of your team and have the autonomy to set the mission and drive it to completion.

YOUR DAY-TO-DAY:

  • Leverage your deep technical experience to guide your team’s software development while growing your planning, management, and communication skills toward a director level engineering leadership position.
  • 40% coding + code review + design.  60% planning and management
  • Own a product and software services that are critical to PI’s success.
  • Partner with a product manager to create a product and technology investment roadmap for your team.  Regularly track and communicate progress against your roadmap.
  • Advocate for high value technology and process improvements within your roadmap.  Clearly communicate the value of these investments to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Leverage data and metrics in all your decisions.  Design your software to record the data you need.  Communicate usage, performance, and overall value of software through dashboards and metrics.
  • Lead your team’s migration to a service oriented architecture that increases speed to deployment and reduces risk.
  • Lead an agile scrum team of engineers to deliver high quality software against the roadmap.
  • Create your team’s technical training plan.  Hire new team members, coach existing team members, and invest in new skill training.
  • Contribute to PI’s public facing engineering brand to attract top talent to your team
  • Leverage feedback and retros to continuously improve technology and process with your team.
  • Rollout software updates to a large client base with no disruption of service
  • Primary technologies include .NET backend and API layer with Angular and Node.js frontend, hosted in Azure Cloud

SHOULD YOU APPLY?

If you think you’ve got these skills then we want to hear from you!

  • Strong track record of delivering complex projects in a fast paced, agile environment
  • Experience building a service oriented architecture in the cloud.
  • Passionate about automated testing
  • Understanding of how to scale a system to meet the needs of a growing user base
  • Change agent willing to experiment, learn, and pivot by making data driven decisions
  • Strong manager, career coach, and advocate to ensure everyone on the team is happy, engaged, and challenged
  • Knowledge of engineering practices in a 24/7 cloud environment

Those who excel at The Predictive Index are:

  • Cross-functional: At PI, we work as a team!
  • Smart: They learn our systems, data, and our industry quickly.
  • Energetic: We have a vibrant office and you come ready to share your ideas.
  • Driven: We’re growing fast so you MUST be willing to roll up your sleeves.
  • Fun: Because we work hard, we like to play hard—and we hope you do too!

Just as our employees are threads in the cultural fabric of PI, THREADS is our framework for understanding our core values.

Teamwork: Focus on the “we,” not the “me.”

Honesty: Follow your moral compass.

Reliability: Be someone others can count on.

Energy: Be balanced, be energized.

Action: Errors of action are better than errors of inaction. Be brave.

Drive: Own it.

Scope: Don't try to boil the ocean.

An Insider's view of The Predictive Index

How would you describe the company’s work-life balance?

I think The Predictive Index really puts its people first. My manager has been really supportive of my needs in and out of the office. I think having a manager that cares about me as a whole person makes me feel more fulfilled and energized to come to work.

Caraline

Recruiter

What does your typical day look like?

I'd say a good third of a "typical" day is spent meeting with people to make sure our team is building the right stuff and in the right way. Another sixth my day is spent interviewing or thinking about hiring and onboarding since we’re growing so fast. The last half of my day is hopefully spent programming! Building cool stuff is my favorite!

Stefan

Lead Software Engineer

How does the company support your career growth?

PI and my team have done a lot to map out a career path from having monthly discussions to filling out a personal development chart. This has allowed me to clearly see a future as well as understand what it is going to take to achieve my goals, and I know PI will help me get there.

John

Business Development Representative

What is your vision for the company?

Operations at PI enables all business units to empower members to maximize their creativity. I envision PI's growth to be powered by scalability, where systems and intelligence allow us to focus on high-value activities; where departments partner in successful cross-functional initiatives enabled by optimal automation.

Maribel

Senior Vice President, Operations

What’s the vibe like in the office?

It’s vibrant and full of energy with animated discussions every direction you turn. It may sound weird, but it feels like there is knowledge in the air you breathe. You learn something new every day just by interacting with the talented people you work with.

UX Researcher
