Director of Software Engineering at Vicarious Surgical (Waltham, MA)
Vicarious Surgical is hiring a Director of Software Engineering to join our team in Waltham, MA. In close collaboration with peer Directors leading the areas of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Controls, as the Director of Software Engineering you will lead all aspects of the software engineering process for our innovative surgical robot including requirements, design, development, software testing, UI development, DevOps and the product owner function. This is a hands-on technical leadership role where you will lead development of robust requirements, architecture, and design of our surgical robot using model-driven engineering (MDE) techniques. The successful candidate will have previous experience bringing a medical device product through the development lifecycle, and will be expected to collaborate cross-functionally across the organization to develop top-quality products on our roadmap.

Responsibilities
- Manage and lead the software engineering team that include requirements, design, development and test.
- Mentor managers who are developing their direct reports on the application of model-driven engineering using UML and create model-driven architecture (MDA) and automated testing.
- Support integration of automation test frameworks including ATDD/BDD tools like Cucumber etc.
- Build and scale the Software Engineering team in skills and size commensurate to the scope and complexity of our products.
- Work with senior R & D leadership to develop technical roadmap, strategic objectives and plans for clear deliverables.
- Manage external partnerships when needed.
About You
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or directly-related discipline.
- 10+ years of experience in a software leadership position in highly-regulated industry/industries; some experience in the medical device industry required.
- Knowledge and application of medical device development standard IEC 62304 is required.
- Previous experience leading teams through model-driven software architecture, design, and automated testing from prototype to product release.
- Surgical robotics experience is helpful.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential to success in the role.
