TripAdvisor is looking for a passionate and seasoned engineering leader to build up and lead the Bokun engineering team in the Boston office. Bokun follows the Spotify methodology for scaling engineering teams, using “squads” and “chapters”. The Bokun engineering team consist of “squads” in Iceland, Lithuania, and we want to add our first squads in Boston. A squad is simply a small cross-functional self-organized team with usually less than 8 people. They have end-to-end responsibilities and they work together toward long-term missions. On squads, the key drive is autonomy - they have a mission and a target they should reach, but how they do it is up to them. A squad has all the roles needed to release a feature or improvement to the product: 

What you will do

• Hire and develop squads for Bokun in Boston
• Inspire, manage, and grow our engineering team
• Influence product direction through scientific and technical insights.
• Create and nurture a productive and collaborative office culture
• Be a “servant leader”: coaching, mentorship, and solving impediments rather than telling people what to do.
• Run “squad health checks”
• Maintain effective relationships with other offices – especially Iceland
• Maintain effective relationships with other team leaders
• Drive the team forward to ensure we operate a state of the art technology stack

Who you are

• You have substantial experience building and shipping well-loved software products
• You have experience managing engineering teams and have successfully solved many of the tough organisational challenges that follow
• You have strong technical background as evidenced by multiple engineering leadership roles of increasing seniority with a personal preference for remaining highly technical.
• You are a compelling storyteller with experience communicating concepts and ideas to engineers and non-engineers alike
• You have a proven ability to influence decision-making at all levels within an organization, and in a variety of contexts
• You have strong experience building and operating data intensive products that swiftly and automatically learn from the behaviour of its customers.
• Your teams are operating effective software development environments including agile, continuous improvement and continuous delivery
• You have a servant leadership mindset and you subscribe to the cultural values cherished at Bokun and TripAdvisor
