Summary:

We are seeking a scientist to work with small teams to advance the science of learning and develop new learning systems. Do you like to play games, but are more interested in how to improve the game than winning? Are you interested in how people acquire new skills? Do you wish tailored and adaptive training was available to everyone? Are you excited about motivating participation and flow in training and other systems? This may be the position for you!

You will apply the latest evidence-based techniques from fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), cognitive modeling, intelligent tutoring, modeling and simulation, incentive engineering, and/or instructional design to domains such as cyber defense, maintenance, and intelligence analysis. You will work with our scientists and software engineers to determine requirements, design new approaches, and assist in implementing these designs in software. You will support the evaluation of research ideas and documentation of results for peer-reviewed publication and reports to Sponsors. You will be involved in the authoring of new proposals to further these areas of research and development.

Major Responsibilities/Activities:

  • Work with Principal/Senior scientists to analyze and understand customer problems and issues, and convert these insights into system requirements
  • Pursue novel technologies to implement solutions, including establishing new areas of research
  • Present innovative technical solutions to potential new customers
  • Aid and/or lead teams in designing and implementing a variety of learning solutions
  • Work with software engineers in developing and implementing solutions
  • Conduct technical discussions with customers with support from other scientists
  • Write and contribute to proposals
  • Contribute to reports and papers
  • Present work at briefings and conferences

Minimum Requirements:  

MUST HAVE:

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, or related field with 2-5 years of previous experience
  • Effective verbal and written skills to support proposal writing, interaction with customers, and presentations at technical conferences
  • Experience with several of the following topics: artificial intelligence, human behavior modeling, modeling and simulation, intelligent tutoring, instructional design, incentive engineering, machine learning, crowdsourcing
  • Ability to work closely with software engineers in bringing designs to software systems.

NICE TO HAVE:

  • Advanced degree in science, engineering, or related field with 3 years of previous experience
  • A record of publications in the above fields
  • A background in managing and/or executing experimental research
  • Domain experience addressing cyber defense, maintenance, intelligence analysis, or other military problems
  • Software development experience
  • Military and/or IC experience
