Desktop Metal is revolutionizing 3D printing of metal parts. Our printer’s robust build processes create complex parts beautifully at a price attainable by any design and manufacturing team and can be used within an office environment. We are looking to bring on board bright, motivated team members across wide spectrum of engineering disciplines. Desktop Metal is seeking a talented and self-motivated 3D Fluids Chemist. The ideal candidate will have experience developing novel inks and fluids from conceptualization to production.
The 3D Fluids Chemist will be responsible for:
- Developing materials that can be broadly applied to metal 3D printing
- Conducting material characterization and analysis
- Devising testing methods to evaluate specific material properties and performance
- Understanding the relationship between fluids and downstream part processing
- Maintaining high level of communications with cross-functional team, and partners
- Working with an interdisciplinary team to define, write, and execute designs of experiments
- Engaging testing facilities, subcontractors, and other subject matter experts to drive design of fluids
- Defining requirements for fluid handling and process parameters in complex printing machines
- Consulting with material scientists to characterize parts
Basic Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to develop deep understanding of end user needs quickly, and proficiently translate those needs into the right technology solution
- Ability to resolve complex issues in creative, efficient, and effective ways
- Proven record of delivering inks and fluids to meet customer requirements
- Able to provide the customer and company-wide perspective to detailed technical decisions
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- PhD Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent
