The Editorial Services Team Lead, leads a team of 3 to 4 Editorial Managers and oversees the creation, quality assurance, and delivery of content to a portfolio of Skyword’s diverse client base. Additionally, the Editorial Services Team Lead implements Skyword's editorial strategy consistently across the team.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Team and Department Management

  • Manage a team of editors as it works to deliver high-quality content to clients.
  • Contribute to an empowering and nurturing work environment by providing ongoing leadership and support.
  • Ensure the team meets daily, weekly, and monthly content delivery goals.
  • Provide team and client status updates to senior management.
  • Assist with team recruitment, onboarding, training, and development.
  • Lead one-on-one, team, and department meetings.

Editorial Strategy and Recommendations

  • Implement and maintain Skyword's editorial strategies.
  • Advise the team on editorial planning, contributor selection, audience, and brand guidelines when launching new client initiatives.
  • Offer senior support and editorial advice to clients, helping them overcome the challenges of online publishing.
  • Provide feedback and input on ongoing planning, topics, and content.
  • Educate the team on strong storytelling techniques and how to approach brand stories.
  • Review content as necessary, including all seed content for new programs

Operations and Talent Staffing

  • Build and manage a team of Editorial Managers and Associate Editors responsible for the management and delivery of content marketing programs for Skyword’s clients
  • Coach team and provide regular performance evaluations to all direct reports
  • Identify employee growth areas and work with L&D to recommend appropriate training opportunities and ensure completion
  • Support Human Resources in the hiring process through candidate identification and interviewing
  • Contribute during bi-weekly management roundtable discussions

Leadership

  • Build relationships with/ director-level senior client stakeholders
  • Resolve editorial issues and develop relevant and actionable plans, programs and recommendations

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, or related field.
  • 6-8 years of professional editing and editorial management experience.
  • 2-4 years of team management experience.
  • Proficiency in and the ability to distinguish between The Chicago Manual of Style and The AP Stylebook
  • Experience managing, developing, nurturing, and inspiring staff.
  • Excellent communication and editing skills, and exceptional eye for detail.
  • Experience creating and assessing strong online content (including SEO knowledge).
  • Ability to analyze, evaluate, and maintain a brand’s voice.
  • Experience offering editorial advice and feedback to clients and creatives.
  • Ability to keep yourself and others on task and organized.
  • Desire to be a team player and work with all departments of Skyword.
  • Skills as a natural and powerful storyteller.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to juggle multiple tasks on a deadline.
  • A history of developing strong professional relationships with freelance contributors, clients, and partners.
  • Occasional travel may be required
