The Company

Wistia is not your average B2B SaaS company.

We are a leading video platform for businesses that want to better create, customize, host, share and analyze the videos that power more human connections with their prospects, customers and employees. We serve companies small and large, and teams ranging from marketing and sales to support and HR.

We are growing fast even though we’ve been around since 2006. We unabashedly enjoy the fun culture and nimbleness typical of a tech startup, but we’re profitable and have chosen to raise only seed money, so we have the luxury of being able to control our investments into whatever we think will best serve the long-term value of the company.

The Position

We're looking for a seasoned product marketer who is excited about the opportunity to quickly have a major impact on our organization and its already awesome growth trajectory and market opportunity. As the Director of Product Marketing, you will report into the VP of Marketing and you’ll play a critical role in helping establish this relatively new function within the team and across the organization. You will manage and mentor one Product Marketing Specialist on your team, for now. This is a highly strategic, creative and collaborative role where you will interact with and inform the work being done in many parts of the company, including of course, working closely with your marketing and product management teammates and also creative, sales, customer happiness, engineering, and more.

Your typical day includes:

  • Owning and managing the go-to-market strategy and positioning, and coordinating with the rest of marketing on the plans for our product launches
  • Developing and communicating crisp value propositions and superior competitive positioning that drives differentiation and preference for Wista
  • Identifying, segmenting and prioritizing the best audiences to target
  • Conducting in-depth market research, gaining customer feedback and gathering competitive insights to help the product and marketing teams achieve a strong product/market fit
  • Facilitating a strong feedback loop with the sales team and delivering sales enablement materials that help keep the message compelling and one step ahead of the competition
  • Forging and maintaining a strong relationship with the product team
  • Prioritizing and coordinating the production of content such as product collateral, white papers, one-sheets, videos, and case studies
  • Evangelize for use of video across our own organization
  • Serving as a company spokesperson at industry events, interfacing with customers, and representing Wistia to media outlets as needed

This job might be for you if you:

  • Have 10+ years of experience in product marketing, with a legacy of successful growth, creativity and collaboration
  • Can point to a track record of successfully launching and marketing complex technical software products in a SaaS environment
  • Boast superb communication skills and are known to be eloquent, effective, and persuasive
  • Possess a creative flair that you use to bring fresh ideas into product positioning and marketing campaigns
  • Naturally and successfully collaborate and build consensus across many personality styles
  • Easily strike a balance between thinking strategically and executing tactically
  • Are comfortable with change (we’re growing fast, so change is constant!)
  • Lean into ambiguity and operate effectively within an evolving team
  • Mastered the art of multitasking and time management - you are both fast and effective
  • Are driven by an internal motivation to contribute and make a positive difference
  • Take pride in mentoring and managing up-and-comers
  • Love to deliver results and make an impact on an organization; strongly dislike bureaucracy and politics

Upon coming on board, you can expect to:

First three months:

  • Gain an understanding of Wistia’s business, goals, and strategic objectives
  • Learn how to navigate an evolving organization to collaborate and get things done
  • Very quickly become an expert in the video for business space - including a deep understanding of our own products and features, as well as those of the competitors...then spread this knowledge across the organization
  • Study our brand, customer and market research, and current positioning to create a SWOT analysis to move us forward with even stronger and more differentiated positioning against the right target segments
  • Identify KPIs and create/revamp reporting and dashboards
  • Create and adapt processes to ensure strong partnerships and feedback loops across the organization

Three to twelve months:

  • Continued refinement of Wistia’s key USPs and position in the market as well as target audience segmentation and prioritization
  • Help craft the short- and long-term story arc for how we evolve our offering in the hearts and minds of businesses everywhere
  • Adopt any additional processes, tools or resources (internal and external) needed to help manage your functional area effectively
  • Ensure feedback loops are in place and there is strong alignment with sales and product teams
  • Become the go-to resource within Wistia for competitive intel, consumer insights, and strategic positioning work across the product suite

Your success will be measured by:

  • Achievement of the overarching company goals, such as increased customer growth and market share, as well as improved NPS
  • Exceeding specific goals related to individual product and feature launches, such as awareness, adoption and usage
  • Feedback from your various teammates across the company on your ability to effectively collaborate and add value
