This role is for an energetic person that is passionate about users and has a desire to help deliver positive user experiences through research. The person who assumes this role will have some research experience and leadership skills that allow for the effective participation in and delivery of cross-functional research activities that enhance the end-to-end experience for our users. The User Experience Researcher is a member of the larger User Experience team and works closely with designers, product managers, and other research organizations within the company. You also possess:

  • Demonstrable experience with multiple usability, field studies, and related research techniques.
  • Proficiency with current tools for web and mobile product research.
  • The ability to handle multiple concurrent projects.
  • Several years of experience in the field of usability and user experience research and a relevant educational background.

Responsibilities:

Overarching responsibilities include working as a member of the user experience research (UXR) team to design and execute studies for data collection activities in accordance with research best practices. Activities may include usability studies, heuristic reviews, field studies, cognitive walkthroughs, contextual inquiry and other activities selected to meet specific research goals. Activities may include:

  • Research Planning
    • Prepare for studies which employ a variety of research methodologies
    • Ensure a clear understanding of the goals and objectives for research projects
    • Meet with stakeholders to reviews goals and objectives
    • Craft studies optimized to address goals and objectives
  • Research Implementation
    • Prepare project plans, study plans, moderator’s guides and other artifacts related to designing and conducting studies
    • Facilitate studies for approved initiatives
    • Participate in observation, note taking and analysis for studies as needed
  • Data analysis & Reporting
    • Complete qualitative and quantitative data analysis following studies and field visits
    • Create and review research reports/presentations with teams and key stakeholders
    • Update UX knowledge tools with relevant findings as appropriate.
  • Education and Knowledge Transfer
    • Work closely with UXR team members to:
      • Build internal body of knowledge
      • Research best practices
      • Develop and maintain wide internal awareness of personas and general user expectations

Relevant Experience:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in the consumer user experience or user research field where user research is a core activity.
  • Master’s degree in Human Factors, Experimental/Cognitive Psychology, HCI, or related field and/or commensurate experience.

Skilled In:

  • Creation and administration of qualitative and quantitative research studies including but not limited surveys, focus groups, card sorting, contextual inquiry, usability studies, co-discovery.
  • Familiarity with web analytics tools
  • Strong statistical analysis skills
  • Familiarity with testing tools such as UserTesting.com, Qualtrics, Optimal Workshop, Dedoose
  • Familiarity with design and prototyping tools and technologies is a plus.
  • Experience with browser-based applications or SaaS is a plus.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment a plus.
  • Stewardship of user personas
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal, communication, and persuasion skills.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Comfortable with fast-paced work environment and responsibilities for multiple projects at any given time
