At Embark, we help people discover their dog more than fur deep with the most comprehensive DNA test on the market. Designed by world leaders in dog genetics, in partnership with Cornell University, the Embark Dog DNA Test tells owners what breeds make up their pets, how to prevent future possible health problems, and what features and traits their pet might have. Embark is the only dog DNA test using a research-grade DNA microarray, letting us give our customers the most accurate and comprehensive results on the market. More importantly, it allows us to do ongoing research into the genetics of dogs, which are a fantastic population for genetic discovery due to selective breeding over time. Our research focuses on mapping new traits and diseases, improving personalized veterinary medicine, and developing new breeding programs to eliminate preventable diseases in pets.

The Role
Are you ready to inspire countless dog owners to give their dogs the best possible care? We’re looking for an incredible Senior UX Designer to join our small but mighty Creative team to help with our production design needs. This role will report to the Creative Director and deliver compelling designs that are digitally-focused concepts and experiences.
The Opportunity (The day-to-day)

• Lead desirability explorations to inform our roadmap
• Unleash a UX toolkit of ideation, journey mapping, user flows, etc
• Coach teammates on Embark’s Design Principles
• Participate in agile process and design critiques
• Design best-in-class experiences after synthesising user needs, business goals, and requirements.
• Articulate design considerations tailored to different audiences
• Establish and enable UX Research as a practice throughout the company
• Be a champion for dogs and their owners

Requirements 

• A kickass portfolio that demonstrates successful design across a wide array of media
• Minimum of 5-7+ years of required experience in visual design, UI design, graphic design, interaction design, or related field
• Mastery of industry-standard design tools, e.g. Sketch, Figma, Zeplin, Adobe CC Suite, Invision, et al.
• Broad experience in designing web and mobile apps and ability to create lightweight prototypes for testing
• Deep care about aesthetics and a great eye for typography, layout, and visual design
• Fluency in best practices for mobile design, as well as strong knowledge of usability principles and techniques. Including knowledge of modern UI patterns, accessibility, design systems; Google Material, Android, Apple-style guides
• Expert in typography, color theory, and icon systems
• You are proactive and can work independently, while also pairing and collaborating with engineers and other designers
• You care deeply about the details and having an exceptional level of fit and finish 
• System thinker with an understanding of atomic design principles 
• Strong understanding of project life cycle methodology (PLM) and testing, performance, security, compliance, and accessibility methodologies
