You

You are a creative problem solver who is comfortable with uncertainty and can lead the design effort to make better product decisions. You can articulate clearly to both designers and non-designers your design methodology and toolkit to achieve products that people find valuable and usable. You are passionate about mentoring both designers and non-designers about user centered design through conducting user research, articulating the user experience, and detailing out the visual design. You like to work alongside and learn from lean and agile leaders. Even more, you enjoy daily product decision-making and real product delivery with product managers and developers.

In this role, you have the freedom to be open-minded, creative, and self-critical; You will constantly challenge yourself to be thoughtful about the role of design in relation to contemporary technology and be committed to lifelong design learning. Furthermore, you will have the autonomy to try out new processes, especially in the spirit of Agile - do what works, try new things, and stop doing things that don’t work.

Us

Pivotal Labs is a recognized leader in modern software development practices. We work with many of the world’s most influential companies, helping them not only build great software, but fundamentally create a culture of innovation. Your Day

You begin every day with a morning stand up with your product team consisting of Product Managers, Software Engineers, and other Designers from both Pivotal and your client. You’ll then start pairing with your client designer to work on the next most important design task. This can include generating solution ideas by facilitating workshops or generating mock-ups in your favorite design software. Other times it will be planning and executing user research to learn more about our users to identify current pains or gathering feedback on feature ideas. From time to time, you may pair with engineers to perfect the design visuals and interactions, resolve technical limitations, or leverage technical benefits. And lastly you may pair with Product Managers to manage the backlog and identify the next most important thing to learn or build. At the end of the week, the team comes together for a team retro to reflect on the process.
