Design Operations Managers bring excellent communication skills, an understanding of design methods and thinking, empathy for the needs of all stakeholders, and strong managerial and influencing skills to make sure that projects deliver as planned. You should relish in ambiguity and being the inspirer who brings people together to solve complex challenges. You understand that most challenges start by solving with people first to discover their obstacles & ideas. You’re able to balance driving to a goal quickly with going slow to define a powerful strategy.
What you’ll do in the role
Your focus will be on enabling the design organization to be as effective as possible, by removing barriers and non-design oriented challenges that keep designers away from focusing on their work. This means facilitating prioritization, identifying milestones, connecting similar workstreams, managing risk, streamlining communications, articulating standards for tools and processes, aligning schedules, and ensuring the team has the people and resources it needs. You will make sure that the processes related to design activities run smoothly. You'll manage the interaction between designers and other functions such as product management, development, marketing, corporate strategy, recruiting, design budgets, and more. You will take care of the communication, planning, briefing, and quality issues concerning design projects and activities. You’ll define yearly and quarterly OKRs that help shape designs’ operation improvements and initiatives.
In collaboration with design and marketing leadership, you'll shepherd the quarterly marketing campaign workload and process, define checkpoints for design critiques and reviews, and streamline programs and creates experiences and guidance that help designers meet high quality standards.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with business, design, and marketing stakeholders to streamline the creation of amazing stories
Design, evaluate and recommend frameworks, technologies and methodologies to support the creation of design
Set up and manage programs/activities for design teams such as onboarding, critiquing, asset management, external presence, tools, events & speakers, training etc…
Create and propose new workflow solutions for brand and design teams
Define and develop OKRs that ensure design operations are evolving and improving
Drive change and influence using analytics and data spliced with in-market design trends
Organize & develop design infrastructure, tools, budgets, and workflow needs.
Collaborate with design leadership on hiring/recruiting programs, job descriptions, roles and responsibilities, recognition and evaluations.
Manage project management system within tools like Asana, Jira, and the like
Provide training on new tools, processes, and give recommendations on new tools.
Experience/Requirements
Experience in design operations or a creative project management for 3+years within a product design or brand marketing team
Experience working across multiple teams and managing multiple delivery schedules
Demonstrated ability to connect the dots for all production and design deadlines, and fearlessness in pursuing all stakeholders to secure what you need
Experience presenting to and effectively advising senior management on progress and recommendations for process improvement
Experience leading cross-team efforts and synthesizing feedback and input from product management, engineering, business, marketing and design
Passion for design, creative, branding and operational efficiency
Understanding of product design and agile/scrum is preferable
Understanding of design tools, techniques, and technical requirements
Strong skills in MS Office & file management tools like dropbox
Experience and ability to use new project management tools, adapt to new ones, and provide training
Some travel required to visit distributed teams and designers
