Senior Data Scientist (Algorithms)
At WHOOP, we're on a mission to unlock human performance. WHOOP empowers its members to perform at a higher level through a deeper understanding of their bodies and daily lives.
As a Senior Data Scientist on the Algorithms team, you will collaborate with a team of experts on core problems of the exciting wearables industry. A massive and growing database of biometrics and performance data is waiting to be explored! We develop and deploy machine learning algorithms on time series sensor data to help WHOOP members understand their strain, recovery and sleep. Your work will directly impact WHOOP’s data science organization and enable the development of member-facing features.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop advanced machine learning models and algorithms for product features. These algorithms will often run on time-series sensor data
- Research, prototype, deploy and own time series algorithms and predictive models, such as classification, forecasting, anomaly detection, change-point detection and signal processing using both conventional and deep learning techniques
- Deploy the models and algorithms in production after testing and documenting the APIs
- Communicate results to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Identify and build new datasets to enhance the models and decision making
- Work closely with product managers and engineers to translate prototypes into production-ready code that maximizes member-value
- Reports to the Data Science - Algorithms, Technical Lead
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field
- 4-5 years of full-time professional experience in applying advanced mathematical and data-driven algorithms in a production environment
- Significant experience working with time series data is preferred. Prior experience with Python-based libraries for time series, such as tsfresh, sktime and Prophet, and deep learning architectures like InceptionTime and other 1D Convolutional Neural Networks will be a plus!
- Proficient in scientific Python (NumPy, SciPy, scikit-learn, Pandas, XGBoost), SQL, and version control (GitHub)
- Ability to formulate hypotheses, draw conclusions and deliver results
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to present findings to stakeholders and communicate results to all colleagues
- Understanding of exercise physiology or athletic experience is a huge plus
