Senior Data Engineer, Business Intelligence

The Sr Data Engineer will play an integral role in our Business Intelligence team. This person will help build the platform that fosters thousands of data-informed decisions at Toast every day. We are looking for an experienced, highly motivated, energetic candidate who has worked with large and complex datasets and formats. As a senior member of the team, mentorship of more junior teammates is not just encouraged, but expected. This is not just a “keep the lights on” data engineering role - this person will play an integral part in helping build a best in class BI function and platform to support our best in class restaurant technology platform.

About this Roll*:

Develop efficient, scalable and performant ETL tooling and infrastructure using SQL, Python and Airflow
Advocate for and drive decisions that incorporate data modelling and data architecture best practices
Work with key stakeholders to make sure we are not just solving the data need, but also the business need
Serve as a technical mentor to more junior team members
Contribute to our backlog and roadmap when you see opportunities to add business value, efficiencies or scalability

Do you have the right ingredients?

Bachelor's degree in an advanced quantitative field; 5+ years experience in data engineering
SQL and Python superstar who has put those skills to work in data warehouse environments
Experience working with large datasets (billions of rows)
A highly quantitative problem solver who loves to dig into different kinds of data and determine how they can be pieced together to reach positive business outcomes
Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, changing environment while focusing on key goals and objectives

Bonus Ingredients:

Work experience in a high growth tech or SaaS company
Experience with orchestration tools like Airflow or Luigi
Experience with cloud data warehouses like Snowflake, Azure, BigQuery or RedShift
Experience with data visualization tools like Looker, Periscope, Mode, SiSense, etc
Experience with NetSuite, Salesforce
Experience working in an Agile environment
