As a Remote Sensing Data Engineer on the GeoInnovation Team at Indigo, you will collaborate closely with both Engineers and Data Scientists to understand geographical and sensor data and integrate the disparate data sets into the UDP. In this role, you will be the bridge between Data Science and Engineering, building, scaling, driving Data Science solutions into production. This is an extremely collaborative, cross-functional role that addresses incredibly large datasets to solve impactful problems. 

Responsibilities:

  • Break down data and write algorithms for new sensors
  • Independently research and integrate new sensor data into production within existing system
  • Collaborate with Data Sciences and Engineering to drive scalable engineering solutions
  • Delight users across the organization by ensuring access to data that is necessary for those users to make informed decisions

Competencies:

  • Highly familiar with different remote sensing data sources (satellites, weather sensors, etc.)
  • Highly familiar with geographical datasets (projections, tile-sets, grids, spatial statistics, shapefiles, etc.)
  • Understands numerical and scientific computing; able to quickly solve problems related to aggregation of large amounts of data
  • Passionate about coding solutions to large and difficult geospatial problems
  • Evangelizes modern software engineering practices, cares about code quality, readability, performance and scalability
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, growth environment

Qualifications:

  • 1-4 years experience working in industry
  • PhD in earth sciences, geophysics, etc. preferred
  • Proven experience working with large geographical datasets from various remote sensing data sources
  • Experience working in an agile engineering environment strongly preferred

Location

On the edge of Charlestown, we are within walking distance to restaurants and bars. The Sullivan Square T and bus stop is also right next door! We are currently working remote/hybrid with the exception of our fantastic Biotrinsic team who work from the office and lab space here.
