NLP Data Scientist Internship
Job Description:
Reporting into the Director of NLP, the NLP Data Scientist Intern serves as key resource and Subject Matter Expert (SME) on efforts to develop scalable, efficient, automated Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning solutions for large scale data analyses, model development, model validation and model implementation. You will work alongside NLP experts, Linguists, Annotators, and Machine Learning Engineers to assess, dissect, and analyze Workhuman’s global customer recognition moments, while working on groundbreaking data science initiatives that support in creating more engaging, motivating, and happy workplaces all over the world.
Responsibilities:
Build machine learning and NLP models for Workhuman NLP/AI products.
Write and maintain a robust library of reusable algorithms and supporting code, such that research efforts are transparently conducted, and can be productionized and are reproducible.
Experiment with various NLP techniques and state-of-art ML framework to continuously improve the pipeline and NLP systems.
Translates complex analytical and technical concepts to non-technical employees to enable understanding and drive informed business decisions.
Requirements & Qualifications:
Field of study in computer science, computational linguistics, machine learning, data science or other related field required.
Experience working with NLP or AI products.
Experience in natural language processing and machine learning such as text classification, sentiment analysis, and sequence tagging.
Programming skills in Python required.
Experience with state-of-art machine learning and natural language processing toolkits such as Sklearn, Gensim, Spacy, NLTK, etc.
Experience with at least one of the deep learning toolkits, such as Tensorflow, Pytorch, Keras, etc.
Experience developing products that utilize advanced machine learning and NLP techniques along with transitioning those solutions from the development environment into the production environment.
Experience working with speech and/or language data.
Experience working with text data annotation.
Comfortable handling a high volume of work daily.
Comfortable working in a fast paced, highly collaborative, dynamic work environment.
Willingness to support several projects at one time, and to accept reprioritization as necessary.
Strong attention to detail.
Experience with process design and documentation.
Experience communicating research findings and analysis in both written and spoken.
Internship/Co-Op Guidelines:
All interns must be at least 18 years of age.
All internship opportunities are paid (hourly rate).
All selected candidates will formally interview for the specific opportunity.
Candidates will only be considered if they are an appropriate match for the seat/department (i.e. similar major, required skill sets, applicable experience / past internships, etc.).
Candidates may be subject to pre-employment screening such as a background check prior to receiving the Internship.
Internships normally run during the course of one semester (about 16 weeks), but this may vary depending on the needs of the student and the needs of Workhuman® as well as the requirements set forth by the student’s academic department.
The intern is not entitled to a job at the conclusion of the internship, any continuing employment shall be at the sole discretion of Workhuman®.
We offer both full and part time Co-Op/Internship opportunities.
Co-Ops/Internships can occur at any time during the year.
Please Note:
Fall internships typically run from the end of August/beginning of September through the beginning of December.
Winter internships typically run from the beginning of December through the end of February.
Spring internships typically run from the end of February to beginning of May.
Summer internships typically run from the end of May or beginning of June to mid or end of-August.
Other start and end dates may be arranged if agreed upon by both the student’s academic department and Workhuman.
Potential interns must have an appropriate background for the department of interest. For example, to intern in our Finance department, candidates should be majoring in business, finance or another related major, or should have applicable class, job or internship experience.
We have a limited number of summer internships available but also consider interns for other times of year. We encourage you to apply with us!
