The Lead Data Scientist uses mathematics, statistics, modeling, business analysis, and technology to transform high volumes of complex data into advanced analytic solutions. The Lead Data Scientist works on problems of diverse scope and complexity ranging from moderate to substantial.

 

Responsibilities

 

 

The Lead Data Scientist uses mathematics, statistics, modeling, business analysis, and technology to transform high volumes of complex data into advanced analytic solutions. The Lead Data Scientist works on problems of diverse scope and complexity ranging from moderate to substantial.  The Lead Data Scientist develops, maintains, and collects structured and unstructured data sets for analysis and reporting. Creates reports, projections, models, and presentations to support business strategy and tactics. Advises executives to develop functional strategies (often segment specific) on matters of significance. Exercises independent judgment and decision making on complex issues regarding job duties and related tasks, works under minimal supervision, and uses independent judgment requiring analysis of variable factors and determining the best course of action.

We are looking for experienced analytics professionals formally trained in a quantitative discipline to enable the organization to leverage data to drive operational efficiency and cost reduction efforts across the enterprise.  These disciplines incorporate data mining, statistical analysis, pattern recognition, text analytics, natural language processing, predictive modeling and optimization. Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in dialogue with internal business partners to determine areas of opportunity where analytics can be leveraged to solve big problems.
  • Lead cross-functional advanced analytics projects to execute on Humana Military’s strategic initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships within the enterprise business and analytic communities.
  • Design, prototype, and implement statistical modeling, machine learning algorithms and other advanced analytics techniques to solve business problems.
  • Lead the exploratory data analysis effort to navigate a diverse set of datasets, and organize and wrangle large datasets, come out with broad conclusions based on initial appraisal and get actionable insights from them.
  • Visualize data to tell a compelling story and communicate project progress to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Coach, mentor, develop and provide technical review, advice and expertise to other Data Scientists, Data Engineers and Informaticist on the team.

               

Required Qualifications

  • Master's Degree and 2-7 years of experience
  • 1 or more years project leadership experience
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts and analytics-driven findings to business people potentially including C-level executives, and to explain business processes, concepts, challenges, and issues to technical resources
  • Programming proficiency in at least one of the following languages: Python, R, and/or SQL
  • Knowledge of payer claims, clinical programs and interventions, and/or health outcomes
  • Ability to understand clinical information from a variety of procedural terminology and medical codes (e.g.  ICD-10, CPT)
  • Experience querying relational databases using SQL
  • Experience in using mathematics, statistics, modeling, business analysis, and technology to transform high volumes of complex data into advanced analytic solutions
  • Successful demonstrated experience in working on problems of diverse scope and complexity ranging from moderate to substantial
  • Experience in developing, maintaining, and collecting structured and unstructured data sets for analysis and reporting
  • Experience in creating reports, projections, models, and presentations to support business
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and decision making on complex issues regarding job duties and related tasks
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision, using independent judgment
  • Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences
  • Must be a US Citizen and pass an eQIP security clearance.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD
  • Experience in visualizing data using tools such as Power PI or Tableau to communicate findings
  • Experience working in Microsoft Azure environment
  • Experience with optimization techniques (e.g. linear programming)

 

Additional Information

  • Location: Remote
  • Travel: approximately 10%
  • This job reports to the Associate Director, Data Science.  This area is under the leadership of the Associate VP, Business Intelligence.
