As a Geoanalytics Data Scientist on our Data Innovation team, you will use your GIS and database expertise to help curate, grow and maintain a rapidly expanding collection of geospatial data assets uniquely available within Indigo. Using knowledge of spatial analysis techniques you will leverage data to solve business problems and support a wide variety of stakeholders within the organization and without.

Responsibilities:

  • Build deep understanding of existing spatial data assets and be at the forefront of discovering and ingesting new datasets
  • Interface with contractors to ensure quality control on larger projects
  • Take ownership of discrete tasks, delivering on challenging deadlines
  • Collaborate with engineering and data science teams to organize and evangelize geospatial data assets

 

Competencies:

  • Extensive experience analyzing spatial data using open source platforms (QGIS, PostGIS, Carto)
  • Knowledge of GIS concepts and analyses and experience with a variety of spatial formats
  • Experience with SQL and relational databases, Postgres (with PostGIS) strongly preferred
  • Can work with and understand a wide range of geospatial data formats
  • Can use git for day-to-day version control
  • Fluent in Python, capable of framing problems as Python programming tasks from the ground up, as well as working with existing code
  • Can translate the results of complex analyses into interpretable results, visually and verbally
  • Works well independently or on a team
  • Writes reasonably well-documented, maintainable code in a collaborative environment

 

Qualifications:

  • An academic degree in geography or other sciences with a quantitative and spatial focus, MS or PhD not required
  • 2-3 years of experience in data engineering or geospatial analytics
  • Substantive experience with spatial data and databases

Location

On the edge of Charlestown, we are within walking distance to restaurants and bars. The Sullivan Square T and bus stop is also right next door! We are currently working remote/hybrid with the exception of our fantastic Biotrinsic team who work from the office and lab space here.
