The opportunity

As the Director of Finance Data Operations, you will be responsible for the successful execution of finance data management strategy and be outstanding as the data champion. You will have significant interaction and partnership with the finance data owners and other MassMutual data leaders. You will play a key role in driving culture change to enable data access, self-service, and usage across Corporate Finance to allow users to become fluent in using data with best practices.? You will partner with the technology team to leverage emerging enterprise technology capabilities in data enablement and consumption; deliver efficient and optimized financial data related processes; implement strong governance oversight. As the Director of Finance Data Operations, you will lead a team of data domain owners and report directly to the Head of Finance Data Management.

 

The Team

The Finance Data Management team, within Controller's group, manages financial data domains used by MassMutual and supports significant financial applications. The team take lead in three areas data innovation & efficiency, data governance, partnership with business and technology. The team supports a broad set of financial applications including general ledger, sub-ledgers, planning, reporting and treasury tools. Our vision is be the expert data management function to champion and democratize optimized financial data, in turn enabling self-service across Corporate Finance to be a best-in-class strategic finance team.

 

The Impact

We are looking for an experienced data management professional who can deliver business value by supporting financial data enablement, governance and consumption. The key responsibilities:

  • Executes the data management strategy for effective management, and sustainment of financial data domains
  • Works with data owners to identify and prioritize opportunities for improvement
  • Provides support to data projects to meet standards
  • Lead data domain owners to operationalize key processes and SLAs with clear roles and accountability
  • Builds a strong engagement model with Enterprise Technology and Customer Experience (ETX) organization to manage data prioritization and on-boarding to the data lake
  • Measures finance data management compliance with enterprise data governance policy and standards
  • Establishes governance for critical data elements
  • Governs the data life cycle of data domains from inception to production in data lake
  • Ensures that all financial data has data quality and transformation rules appropriately documented and subjected to appropriate governance and controls
  • Promotes strategic sourcing of material data for centralized organizational use
  • Reduce manual touchpoints through manual spreadsheets used to load data into data lake
  • Understands and adheres to the Enterprise risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Enterprise Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management
  • Facilitates remediation of finance data management-related issues
  • Maintains MassMutual internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by internal/external auditors as applicable

 

The Minimum QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years of work experience in the financial data management role
  • Experience managing financial data for financial shared services, financial reporting or regulatory reporting
  • Experience in data governance
  • Innate desire to provide excellent service to clients
  • Demonstrated leadership of business analysis and data management
  • Organized and detail-oriented; multi-task various responsibilities
  • Ability to think critically and demonstrate good judgment
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple deliverables
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, mathematics, engineering or related field

 

The Ideal QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7+ years of work experience in the financial data management role
  • Experience developing and leading high-performing, diverse teams
  • Experience managing financial data for financial shared services, financial reporting or regulatory reporting
  • Experience in data governance
  • Experience in a Corporate Finance function
  • Experience with life insurance, annuities, DI. Managed data domains i.e. Capital, Invested Assets, expenses, flows and insurance
  • Demonstrated innovation, automation and change leadership
  • Experience in leading a team for finance data oversight
  • Excellent relationship building, influencing and communication skills
  • Ability to think critically and demonstrate good judgment
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple deliverables
  • Master's degree, MBA, PMP certified
