We’re an international agtech startup pioneering an ambitious mission in a high growth industry where agriculture meets technology to solve our toughest climate and economic challenges. Through the use of data-driven insights, natural microbiology, and innovative digital technologies, Indigo is partnering across the supply chain, ultimately cultivating a scalable climate solution and enhanced partner ecosystem that beneficially serves farmers, consumers, and the planet alike.

Our mission is unique, and therefore our teams are too: from multigenerational farming experts who understand the land as though it were an extension of themselves, to cutting-edge technologists and scientists on the frontier of innovation, our teams are a reflection of the range of the stakeholders we serve: the Earth, the Farmer, and the Consumer.

Director, Business Intelligence

We are currently seeking a director of Business Intelligence (BI) to drive analytic services and BI for the company. This is an opportunity to head a team of experienced analysts in lighting up one of the most diverse and fast-changing enterprise datasets in the world. Our teams daily interact with millions of bushels of grain transactions, thousands of miles of transportation services events, billions of satellite and on-farm agronomic data points, and millions of digital customer records and digital marketing events. BI at Indigo plays a critical role in translating all of that data into the stable, repeatable KPIs and metrics that drive our business decisions and operations.

When it comes to technology and tools, you should come with conviction and practical experience working with cutting-edge platforms that enable scale in the BI function. Close partnering with Indigo’s Data Platform team is essential, to generate the data marts and other database structures to make BI at scale possible. An obsession with delivering accurate, actionable, granular insights in support of Indigo’s mission is a must. Data has a big impact at Indigo, and the Director of BI plays a key role in the success of our mission to help farmers sustainably feed the planet.

As a Director of Business Intelligence, you will bring deep experience hiring, training, equipping, and retaining top analyst talent in medium-sized companies. We are looking for a track record of translating business questions into clear analytic pathways and finally into scalable dashboards, reports, and other data visualization assets.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish a single trusted center of excellence at Indigo for supporting all of the analytics and BI reporting needs.
  • Create opportunities for team skill development & career progression, including practical training in consultative skills, analyst workflows, and technology platforms.
  • Develop standards for the team and a coherent approach to intake and prioritization. Identify early gaps in resourcing and project with reliability turnaround time. Ability to increase the velocity of delivering insights without sacrificing quality.
  • Align and balance the demands of competing business leaders ensuring that we're spending resources on the top priorities for the business vs. nice-to-have analyses. Bring a practical bent to analytic problem solving, identifying the most efficient solution to complex reporting challenges.
  • Create a plan of action to automate, convert reports from Excel to Looker or other BI platforms and tools where possible to avoid manual updates and boost the overall efficiency of the team.
  • Create connectivity to the Data Engineering group so that there's a shared understanding of what data needs to be added to our Data Platform and in what formats in order to make the data ready for business requirements.
  • Boost the efficiency of Indigo employees by maintaining a robust training and enablement program for ad hoc analytics and data analysis; identify the relevant generalist platform(s) for such analyses and enable early-stage or one-off analyses from the relevant operations, offering, commercial, or financial teams.
  • Ability to work with senior/executive leadership on data priorities. Creating end-to-end views of the business that enable a deeper understanding of customer experience and business performance.

Competencies:

  • Able to prioritize conflicting demands; able to prioritize a large number of requests, requirements from a diverse group of end-users; able to set expectations to a broad group of internal clients
  • Able to think big-picture about business intelligence analytics and visualization, linking many different teams’ data
  • Thrives in fast-paced environments; able to switch focus and context quickly
  • Builds trusted working relationships naturally; able to lead by influence as well as direct line reporting.
  • Strong analytic problem solver; able to decompose problems into manageable pieces and identify the path of least resistance for getting to conviction.
  • Effective, an empathetic team leader with experience driving team performance through high-velocity and ever-changing workflows

Qualifications:

  • You have experience in business intelligence, data management, data operations, analytics experience, or similar discipline; prior management consulting is a plus
  • Bachelor or Master’s Degree in relevant field or related experience
  • You have experience building and managing a team of more than five analysts
  • You have experience with Excel, SQL, and databases; this is a must
  • Having experience with data warehouse technologies is a must; Snowflake is a big plus
  • You have experience in data visualization frameworks (Looker, Spotfire, Tableau, Google Studio); this is a must
  • Experience with Salesforce is a plus
  • Experience in Python or R is a plus
  • Experience working cross-functionally with agile software development teams
  • Experience managing stakeholders at all levels up to C-suite executives
