We are seeking a highly analytical and technical individual to help build out our newly-formed Competitive Intelligence team. This team’s mission is to use data to illustrate dimensions of the competitive landscape including product selection, velocity, price, merchandising, customer satisfaction and site functionality. This is a unique opportunity to build & manage a massive data asset and enable strategic analysis that rapidly evolves the way in which we understand and respond to our competitors.

If selected, you will help build a first-of-its-kind data asset through large-scale manipulation, management, and automation of billions of rows of data arriving around the clock from myriad sources. The data you assemble and insights you develop in this position will be highly visible to senior management and your peers across the company.


Job description:

  • Acclimate to the Competitive Intelligence data operations approach, processes, and technology
  • Become a subject matter expert on newly-acquired data sets, and how that data is formatted, updated in the database, and relates to existing sets
  • Utilize in-house software to review data processing and tracking; debug and update the software parameters
  • Provide confidence for downstream consumers of the data by conducting quantitative deep dive analyses on data sets to understand their content, and achieve uniformity across data acquired from varied sources
  • Participate in data structure conversations from start to finish, including: business requirements elicitation, data model best practices, implementing changes in SQL, gaining DBA support, and backfill/conversion of existing data
  • Develop a roadmap with key activities and milestones; regularly report on progress toward increasing the breadth and depth of competitive and market intelligence gathering

 

Skills and expertise:

  • Track record of academic excellence, including a four-year Bachelor’s degree and a strong GPA
  • 1-3 years of professional work experience; technology, start-up, data warehousing, or other analytical roles strongly preferred
  • Intermediate SQL experience and demonstrated ability to learn new technologies
  • Topical understanding of web technologies (like APIs and HTTP) and popular web formats (like JSON and HTML)
  • Process-oriented with strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to identify and succinctly summarize roadblocks and constraints, propose potential solutions, and drive toward resolution
  • Attentive to detail with strong quality control, especially in regard to large data sets
  • Familiarity with data modeling, data management, or data warehousing concepts
  • Familiarity with the steps of the software development life cycle and version control
  • Intellectually curious, high energy and possess a strong work ethic
