You’ll be the central resource for data governance expertise, Directing the development of best practices for ensuring understandable, accurate data is used for analysis across Jobcase. You’ll work closely with and coach analysts who serve as primary data stewards in different domains, from product application teams to business functions. You’ll upgrade our data governance tools and processes to make our data better serve our members, employers, partners, and business.

In the first 30 days, you will:

  • Audit the data warehouse public tables for any recently added fields that are missing from our comprehensive documentation, and work with analysts and application engineers to create good descriptions of those fields
  • Understand our existing security/privacy restrictions on data access, both in operational databases and in engineering-maintained data warehouse tables
  • Work with analysts and analytics engineers to ensure an example BI data model is well-documented and data is discoverable for analysis & exploration of some domain
  • Understand our company-wide metrics and create a timeline for regular reviews/updates to them

In the first 90 days, you will:

  • Create a communication and operational process around updates to company-wide metrics, coordinating with analysts, analytics engineers, and finance
  • Ensure reports and current baselines for company-wide metrics are accurate and well-understood across the company
  • Work with analysts and analytics engineers ensure BI data model(s) are well-documented and useful for multiple internal audiences
  • Work with analysts and analytics engineers to define what tables/fields should be available in specialized data marts that will be built with Redshift Data Sharing
  • Draft a data quality strategy/process for one data source and begin planning how to extend it to more

Long-term:

  • Act as the representative analytics stakeholder for the data engineering platform team’s data dictionary software tools
  • Train analysts to work with application engineers to define and document new engineering-maintained data warehouse tables/fields corresponding to new feature development, using best practices for our company, for data warehouses, for Redshift, and for documentation
  • Document and explain imported third-party data (e.g. from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics)
  • Own data quality strategy/process for data sources used for analysis
  • Extend our security/privacy restrictions on data access to business-team-maintained data warehouse tables, working with business teams, analytics engineers, and legal / compliance

Requirements:

  • Project management, stakeholder management, and change management expertise
  • Past experience leading data governance, quality, documentation, or related programs
  • Experience working with data and its users (participation in defining data models and tables for new areas a plus)
  • Precise technical writing skills
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced, hybrid-remote environment
