About the role:
Our Connector Factory team is looking to bring on an experienced Data Engineer. If you are interested in being a guiding voice on a critical feature delivery team, this position is for you.  The connector factory team is responsible for implementing and configuring the data pipelines that ingest and does the ETL and process diverse sources of data. This includes building large batch processing and streaming systems. You will be exposed to every area of our platform and AWS services (Serverless – Lambda, EMR – Hadoop/Spark, EKS – Kubernetes, etc.) but even more so, help drive the evolution of the product and team as we continue to grow rapidly. We believe heavily in architecture evolution and you will bring your experience on best practices as we build out new components of the platform.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the team to evaluate business needs and priorities, liaise with key business partners and address team needs related to data systems and management.
  • Translate business requirements into technical specifications; establish and define details, definitions, and requirements of applications, components and enhancements.
  • Participate in project planning; identifying milestones, deliverables and resource requirements tracks activities and task execution.
  • Generate design, development, test plans, detailed functional specifications documents, user interface design, and process flow charts for execution of programming.
  • Develop data pipelines / APIs using Python, SQL, potentially Spark and AWS
  • Use an analytical, data-driven approach to drive a deep understanding of fast changing business.
  • Build large-scale batch and real-time data pipelines with data processing frameworks in AWS

What you bring to the Abacus Team:

  • 3+ years of In-depth Healthcare data knowledge with ETL background
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a quantitative/technical field (e.g. Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering)
  • Hands-on experience and advanced knowledge of SQL.
  • Knowledge of data management fundamentals and data storage principles
  • Knowledge of distributed systems as it pertains to data storage and cloud computing
  • Experience working with AWS Big Data Technologies (EMR, Athena, Ec2, Redshift and S3 etc.)
  • Strong programming skills (Python, Java or other OOP languages)
  • Strong experience with hands-on data analysis and modeling of large data sets.
  • Experience building and shipping highly scalable and distributed systems on cloud platforms.
  • Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Experience coupled with a willingness to learn new things
  • Desire to contribute individually, with the ability both to self-direct work and to collaborate with others on the technology team
  • Comfort with uncertainty and a desire to be close to business problems
  • Familiar with release engineering tooling such as Git, BitBucket, Jenkins, Artifactory & JIRA preferred
  • Knowledge of software coding practices across the development lifecycle, including agile methodologies, coding standards, code reviews, source management, build processes, testing, and operations

Bonus Points:

  • Experience with other Cloud Data Warehouses (Big Query, Snowflake)
  • Experience in automating AWS and Azure infrastructure using Terraform & cloud native tools preferred
  • Experience with Docker containers, EKS & ECS preferred
