Better Health is reinventing the home medical supply experience. We’re creating a new kind of provider – bundling peer support, coaching, education, and medical supplies into a seamless, end-to-end care model. We help members discover, qualify for, and receive the best products for managing their chronic conditions at home.

Since launching in late 2019, we’ve become licensed in 46 states for Medicare, 11 for Medicaid, and are in-network nationally with Oscar Health and Humana. Backed by Caffeinated Capital, General Catalyst, 8VC, and Bill Ackman, we’re rapidly scaling – and we need builders.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Data Engineering and Analytics Intern who thrives in a fast-paced environment, is passionate about SQL and data modeling, and is curious about how data powers decision-making in healthcare and startups. In this role, you’ll support and execute a variety of data initiatives: from building and maintaining data infrastructure to delivering insights that help teams across the company move faster and smarter.

You’ll work closely with your manager and other stakeholders across the business (including Operations, Engineering, and Marketing teams), getting hands-on experience in both business intelligence and modern data engineering workflows (e.g., using dbt, Redshift, BI tools). This is a great opportunity to grow as a data practitioner while learning how to navigate ambiguity, prioritize stakeholder needs, and build scalable systems from the ground up.

This role is open for both summer internships (full-time, 10 to 12 weeks) and year-round internships (part-time, flexible hours during the academic year). Ideal for current students or recent graduates in technical or analytical fields.

What You’ll Do

Own & Execute Business Analyses

  • Take ownership of ad-hoc analyses that help answer strategic and operational questions

  • Translate stakeholder questions into clear queries and metrics using SQL

  • Design and maintain dashboards and reports that drive business decisions

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand and define data needs

Build & Maintain Data Infrastructure

  • Contribute to dbt models, documentation, and data pipelines

  • Help ensure data quality and consistency across our warehouse and reporting tools

  • Support small-scale data engineering projects to improve internal workflows

Improve Visibility & Data Access

  • Create and maintain clear, well-organized documentation for metrics, dashboards, and data sources

  • Work with business users to make data easier to understand and act on

  • Experiment with AI tools to enhance analytics or improve workflows

Learn & Grow With Coaching

  • Receive regular coaching and mentorship from your manager, who is willing to go the extra mile helping new interns learn and grow

  • Get exposure to a high-growth startup environment with opportunities to contribute meaningfully from day one

What You’ll Bring

  • Proficiency in SQL and data modeling, gained through coursework, personal projects, or work experience

  • Excitement for solving real-world business problems with data

  • Curiosity about AI/ML and how it can improve healthcare operations

  • Clear communication and an eagerness to collaborate with stakeholders

  • Experience or familiarity with dbt, BI tools (e.g. Redash, Sigma, Looker), or other modern data stack technologies is a plus

  • Prior experience in a startup or healthcare setting is a plus

Why Join Us

This internship offers a front-row seat to how data shapes decisions at a high-growth healthcare company. You’ll get hands-on experience with real business problems, technical tools, and close mentorship from experienced leaders. If you’re excited to build, analyze, and learn in a collaborative environment, we’d love to meet you!

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
