edX is looking for someone who loves to tell stories with data. You will help analyze edX’s learner data to steer product direction, increase customer conversion and improve engagement. You will perform ad-hoc investigations into data sets from our data warehouse, web analytics platforms like Google Analytics, and click-stream logs of user activity. You will turn your investigations into a shared source of truth. You will help your internal customers ask and answer the right questions by learning their business deeply and understanding the problems they are trying to solve. You are excited to stretch yourself technically — with our support — and learn new tools and techniques for analysis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with Product, Marketing and the Executive Team to identify key questions, answer them with data and present your findings confidently
  • Build the reports and dashboards we view every day in Tableau, Google Sheets and Excel
  • Work to automate repetitive analysis
  • Train teams on self service of weekly, monthly and quarterly reports.
  • Continually monitor and improve the quality of our data
  • Collaborate with other analysts and data engineers across the organization, and assist various other edX teams with operational duties as needed

Required Skills:

  • Top notch analytical thinking, problem solving skills and attention to detail
  • 3+ years of demonstrated mastery of advanced SQL
  • 3+ years of experience with data visualization, ideally with Tableau (other visualization tools like matplotlib or D3 are a plus)
  • Advanced spreadsheet experience with Excel and Google Sheets
  • Understanding of statistics and predictive analytics
  • Commitment to learning new tools and techniques to continuously improve as an analyst
  • A strong customer orientation and communication skills. Comfortable presenting your work.
  • Ability to work comfortably with incomplete information and deal with ambiguity
  • An ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Skills:

  • Education or training in a field which requires quantitative analysis of large data-sets
  • Familiarity with Python or a scripting language is a significant differentiator
  • Experience with Google Analytics and Optimizely
  • Experience with ad-hoc analysis tools like Jupyter Notebook, R or similar
  • An interest in data science or machine learning
