The Technical Writer is responsible for writing and maintaining several types of user documentation including user guides, release notes, reference manuals, online help text, and instructions. The Technical Writer gathers, develops, and disseminates technical information among customers, engineers, support professionals, and other technical writers on the team.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Write and maintain topic-based and context-sensitive help using Madcap® Flare® while ensuring our established writing style and standards are met.

  • Research and document product information and functionality by attending standups and interviewing Product Managers, User Experience Designers, other Technical Writers, and Subject Matter Experts. 

  • Use engineering and project management tools such as JIRA, Confluence, Salesforce, and TestRail to understand issues and develop documentation output.

  • Capture end-user and administrative tasks performed in our products and their expected results. 

  • Participate in peer edits. 

  • Establish an understanding of the documentation development life cycle and participate in coordinating milestones as a team.

  • Report project impediments to the team, Product Owners, and Scrum Master.

  • Produce documentation drafts and support the flow of information among teams during development and testing.

  • Collaborate with teammates and be mentored in at least one advanced industry skill.

  • Participate in Agile development processes. 

  • Help maintain the team’s outstanding record of on-time documentation delivery.

 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate deliverables with varying priorities and deadlines within two-week sprints.

  • Use revision and source control effectively within a team setting. 

  • Pursue job/career-related experiences and learning outside of the scope of assigned duties.

  • Be mentored on and model collaboration within and across the organization.

  • Share knowledge in areas of expertise.

  • Develop PrismHR skills.

 

DESIRED SKILLS and EXPERIENCE:

  • In lieu of work experience, technical writing certificate or internship required. 

  • Course work or experience with Madcap® Flare® strongly desired.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Exposure to concepts of research-based methods of presenting information.

  • Technically curious and motivated.

  • Ability to take direction with a “get the job done” attitude.

  • Flexible and willing to accommodate shifting deadlines.

  • Exposure to SaaS or web-based software environments.

  • BS/BA in related field such as Computer Science, Communications, English, or Technical Writing.
