Summary

The Senior Production Technician must be versed in all aspects of production support positions that are common at VideoLink. This includes camera, audio, and lighting operation of all studio and field production equipment and knowledge of equipment for troubleshooting and repairs. Work may occur early mornings, late nights and/or weekends in addition to regular business hours. In addition, the Senior Production Technician may have to perform related duties for other departments, including but not limited to, performing live shots and assisting with ReadyCam® studio installations. Versatility is key to this position along with desire and ability to learn as well as staying abreast of current trends and technologies in the fields of production and IP transmission/live streaming. Attention to detail, organization, flexible schedule and a desire to deliver high quality production are a must. This position reports to the Director of Production.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Production Duties include:

  • Operate and maintain professional video, lighting and audio equipment and facilities
  • Oversee all aspects of the video production studio, including lighting and grip equipment, set items, cameras, and all other related production support equipment
  • Plan, execute and document lighting solutions for all studio productions
  • Develop standard operating procedures for operation of studio and field production equipment and facilities
  • Attend to routine maintenance of the company vehicles, keeping track of maintenance logs and keep all vehicles production ready and communicate vehicle readiness to the Production Department.
  • Manage ENG and Studio equipment inventory
  • Attend site surveys and production meetings
  • Shoot, manage, and create still and video backdrops for clients
  • Perform various production roles including but not limited to:
    • Studio and field audio technician
    • Studio and field camera operator
    • Technical Directing
    • Webcast Encoding
    • Prompter Operator
    • Floor Manager
    • Utility
    • Grip


Essential Skills:

  • Strong Knowledge of studio and field lighting equipment categories (HMI, Tungsten, Fluorescent, LED & Strobe), familiarity with grip and basic electrical knowledge.
  • Strong knowledge of video camera types and formats, including Panasonic broadcast and prosumer models, Panasonic PTZ cameras and controllers, Canon C300 and C300 II cameras, Sony FS7, and other standard HD and 4K professional camera models.
  • Strong knowledge of audio operations and solutions for video productions, including analog and digital audio consoles, wired and wireless microphones, analog and digital telephone interfaces and hybrids, RTS and Clearcom comms systems.
  • Ability to align day-to-day activities to assigned objectives and incorporate feedback and take direction well.
  • Energetic, hard-working attitude when working independently or as an integral member of a team.
  • Passion for accuracy and thoroughness with the ability to monitor and check own work to ensure quality.
  • Necessary organizational skills to multi-task, adapt to changing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Constant desire to expand abilities and learn new techniques, skills and tools.

Job Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in a television or video production facility environment.
  • A college degree in a production-related field is preferred, but an individual with considerable relevant experience will be considered.
  • Strong work ethic, self-direction, self-motivation, patience, persistence and the ability to get along with coworkers and customers.
  • Mature judgment to make sound decisions based on objective evidence, customer and VideoLink needs, and cost considerations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including necessary paper and/or computer documentation.
  • Self-motivation, organization and resourcefulness.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Work performance and cooperation that serves as a role model for all. 
  • Strong leadership skills interacting with coworkers and vendors.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude, even under stress.

Other Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
  • Valid passport and ability to travel domestically/internationally.
  • Ability to lift/carry 50lbs.
  • Ability to climb ladders and perform overhead work.
  • Ability to travel, including on short notice and/or for extended periods of time.
  • A command of Word, Outlook, Excel, and ScheduAll computer programs are necessary.
  • Skills in both traditional television broadcast and IT equipment installation, trouble shooting, and customer service.
