On-call Photo Stylist
THE ROLE: We’re looking for…
An On-call Photo Stylist will organize, prepare and style clothing and accessories to be photographed on model for an opportunistic flash-sale site and for various high-profile online marketing materials. This individual will formulate and maintain overall style and quality while managing daily production for maximum efficiency. The Photo Stylist will also be essential to the execution of Rue Gilt Groupe's creative direction by working closely with the studio team and art directors, painting sets, and researching and ordering props.
What you’ll accomplish…
- Ever mindful of the customer experience, prepare and style merchandise providing as much product detail as possible while maintaining visual appeal.
- On set at all times unless prepping takes precedence, maintaining apparel styling for each shot and keeping a watchful eye on apparel as model moves as well as keeping an eye on hair and make-up.
- Maintain set with photographer and art director to organize workload for the day to meet daily expectations and deadlines and to maximize efficiency
- Run and/or participate in weekly pre-production meetings, daily walkthroughs as necessary, and prepping all clothing & accessories prior to shooting
- Shepherd and care for samples throughout the photo process, maintaining vendor packaging, SKU tags, apparel tags, cleaning make-up stains and noting any damage.
- Maintain a fully stocked kit at all times and informing Director of Styling of any special ordering needs.
- Research new ideas and trends and propose innovative ideas to drive the business.
- Assist in maintaining the styling closet and supplementing the closet with new pieces as needed
- Liaising with the Director of Styling and art directors to execute the current creative direction, ordering paint, painting sets, researching, ordering, and maintaining props
THE RIGHT FIT:
You have…
- 4+ years styling experience, freelance or for a production studio, preferably with an emphasis in fashion and e-commerce
- Knowledge of styling techniques, strong understanding of fit and clothing design, and ability to manipulate fabric to achieve best results
- Ability to differentiate between personal aesthetic and business aesthetic
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced studio environment is essential, as well as a working understanding of studio operations and efficiencies
- Understanding of digital photography, production studio pace and efficiency
- Background in art, design, fashion, merchandising or photography
- Understanding of colors, interest in building sets, knowledge and enjoyment of arts and crafts a plus
- Ability to lift heavier items like set elements, bags of clothing and shoes on location shoots, etc.
- Strong communication skills and excellent ability to work with a wide variety of people
- Flexibility and patience with the ability to accommodate last minute additions to schedules and changes in direction
- Ability to work with a team to accomplish deadlines and production efficiency
- General interest in e-commerce and the desire to be a part of a building business
