We are looking for an Associate Director, Email to join our team for a limited term ending November 28, 2026. The Associate Director, Email will lead email programs for our biggest clients and help manage and develop the department. Candidates should be able to demonstrate they are ready to take on leadership responsibilities while managing staff and a large book of work.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as email lead on several complex client accounts — developing and explaining email strategy, communicating with the client, setting content calendars and goals, writing compelling emails, managing client approvals, executing email production, analyzing results, and optimizing based on performance and client feedback

  • Help direct reports build their own experience contributing to or managing account strategy
  • Regularly work independently while also helping provide support across the team, sharing best practices with direct reports and the wider team, while helping with coverage as needed
  • Ensure all content is rooted in the authentic and honest voice of the client, and that each program is unique to each client
  • Use email CRMs and online platforms to produce emails and track results
  • Develop and deliver professional reports, projections, and memos for clients
  • Regularly A/B test topics and tactics across clients, while remaining on top of digital trends and tools, ensuring we are proactive in innovating for our clients
  • Effectively manage client communication and expectations across multiple programs
  • Work collaboratively with company leadership, strategists, other managers, and members of the paid media, measurement and analytics, and content teams to develop holistic strategies to maximize results across clients
  • Help lead the team’s work to integrate new technology into workflows
  • Proofread and help fact check content before it goes to the client or to supporters
  • Brainstorm creative email ideas for clients and contribute to a collaborative team culture
  • Regularly work independently while also helping provide support across the team, sharing best practices and helping with coverage as needed
  • Respond to news in real-time as needed, by drafting and producing rapid messages in response to fast-breaking news
  • Perform additional responsibilities as requested

Qualifications:

  • Experience and demonstrated success managing multiple employees while simultaneously running successful digital fundraising programs
  • Ability to advise and act as a skilled, trusted manager who can train and mentor other managers
  • Advanced knowledge of digital strategy and email fundraising
  • Deep knowledge of email best practices including theories of change, creative writing, A/B testing, error-free copywriting, and email formatting
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, time management and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated experience “thinking outside the box” and finding creative solutions to complex problems
  • Ability to handle multiple challenging tasks at once and meet tight deadlines as needed
  • Proficiency in using G-Suite tools including shared Google Drive, Google Sheets, and Google Docs
  • Proficiency in HTML coding
  • Thorough understanding of and experience using progressive tools, including ActBlue, NGP, EveryAction, Action Network, ActionKit, and more
  • Experiencing reading and analyzing data - and using that to inform decision-making
  • Willingness to contribute to a collaborative team culture
  • Committed to getting things right - pays close attention to detail and doesn’t stop trying
  • Experience managing an email program and explaining strategy to stakeholders is required

Benefits:

  • 100% employer-paid health care, vision, and dental
  • 100% employer-paid life insurance and disability
  • 401(k) with 3% employer contribution plus additional 2% employer match, fully vested on day one

  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
