Reporting directly to the President, and a member of the leadership team, the Vice President of People Strategy will oversee all aspects of employee engagement and development, talent strategy, and management. As our most senior people leader, this newly-created role will focus on the stewardship of the end-to-end talent strategy that best supports edX's strategy and audacious ambitions. This is a strategic role that will include interaction at all levels of the organization. Since edX is in growth mode, this is an ideal role for someone who has prior experience in a rapid growth or mid-sized startup company or similar experience from within a consulting firm advising on OD and ED strategy development.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Function as a trusted advisor to the senior leadership team, providing thoughtful counsel and leadership on how to create and steward a comprehensive talent strategy
  • Create best in class individual and organization design development efforts for a high-performance organization
  • Translate the strategic and tactical business plans into strategic and operational talent plans
  • Build a strong brand as a great employer both internally and externally
  • Develop and implement effective employee communication strategies and tactics
  • Steward culture development
  • Lead and mentor a team of 6 HR and talent acquisition professionals
  • Oversee key talent functions including recruiting, led by our head of talent acquisition, and HR management and employee relations led by our HR manager
  • Directly lead compensation strategy; performance management; and executive, employee and organization development
  • Leverage and analyze HR data such as to guide decision making, priority setting and opportunity identification

Experience and Skills Needed

  • 10-15+ years overall experience leading Human Resources in a fast paced organization
  • 5+ years direct HR and employee development senior leadership experience,
  • Core domain expertise and experience leading organization design and development, executive development, team effectiveness and learning and development initiatives in best in class organizations or at top HR or management consulting firms.
  • Prior experience successfully building a talent strategy that enables the business strategy during key scaling periods, preferably with a technology enabled high growth startup
  • Demonstrated success implementing modern methods and tools for performance management and talent development that have a real impact on talent and business results
  • Strong communication, problem-resolution and culture development skills
  • Experience driving inclusion and diversity programs
  • Experience in, or understanding of, a rapidly growing startup culture is ideal
  • Highly analytical and strong emotional intelligence
  • Ability to effectively communicate and influence at all levels of the organization
