User Research
To reinvent an industry, you have to build the best team. Join Formlabs if you want to bring ground-breaking professional 3D printers to the desktop of every designer, engineer, researcher, and artist in the world.
We’re looking for an experienced user researcher with strong product instincts to help us develop great hardware, software, resins, and digital experiences. Agile product development demands agile research methods and creativity. You’ll help provide user insights at key decision points to connect our designers and engineers to the voice of the customer. This is a unique opportunity where you’ll be responsible for all stages of research. From asking the right questions, recruiting participants and running sessions to presenting and disseminating insights, you’ll be given the space to help design and implement new product features. Formlabs' customers are designers and engineers themselves, often working at innovative startup and technology companies.
If you’re passionate about new product development, this is an amazing opportunity. Research at Formlabs will cover quantitative and qualitative methods - talking to customers, working with sales and usage data from our web-enabled Form 2s, and considering the usage of our web and dashboard digital products.
**Submitting a portfolio is recommended for this role.**
The Job:
- Regularly perform research calls, interviews, surveys and field visits. Print and ship parts to solicit materials feedback and learn about new applications. Facilitate in-house alpha and external beta product testing in the run up to major hardware releases.
- Develop and execute research programs as a team of one, with the autonomy to define the scope, timeline, and goals to uncover user needs.
- Work across the company and integrate with different teams (hardware, software, web, materials) as they develop new features: providing an advisory role, helping refine what they want to test, and setting a realistic scope for fast learning and execution.
- Communicate and share insights in an effective way, whether written, verbal, audio or visual.
- Propose product features based on conversations with customers, knowing our product inside and out to develop your own sense of priority and the value of an opportunity.
You:
- Have experience of best practices from design consulting or another consumer research role.
- Are excited to implement agile research methods at a startup, with limited resources and an undefined scope.
- Are equally comfortable with quantitative and qualitative methods and are ready to dive into messy datasets to set up regular reports and dashboards using SQL. Work with our systems team to make sure we’re asking and setting ourselves up to answer the right questions.
- Don’t need a recruiter to talk to a particular customer segment - you are confident, resourceful and ready to pull strings when you need to move quickly.
- Are ready to live and breathe the evolving 3D printing market, a true hardware / product nerd at heart.
