EdX is an open-source learning destination with a mission to provide high quality education for everyone, everywhere. Founded by Harvard and the MIT and based in Cambridge, MA, edX is focused on transforming online and on-campus learning through groundbreaking methodologies, game-like experiences and cutting-edge research on an open-source platform.
We’re looking for a technical project manager to help us manage delivery of software engineering and integration projects to our development partners. Recent projects include development of new APIs for one of our partners, and the launch of several new learning destination sites for top universities.
Your pragmatic, collaborative approach to project management will serve you well in our fast-paced, agile environment. This role isn’t about bookkeeping - it’s about delivering value to our customers and partners while minimizing risk. You understand the difference between traditional project management methodologies and modern practices such as Scrum - and when each one is appropriate. You know how to influence without authority, and are comfortable negotiating with both partners and colleagues to achieve organizational goals.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate software engineering project delivery across departments to ensure delivery on-time and in full
- Serve as project manager on multiple simultaneous projects with different deadlines and priorities
- Work closely with internal and external partners and vendors to build schedules, coordinate discussions, communicate status, and manage expectations
- Anticipate and identify roadblocks and risks, and work with stakeholders across the organization to remove roadblocks and reduce risk
- Define and implement regular, efficient, and effective tracking of projects for internal and external stakeholders, while minimizing repetitive or manual reporting processes
- Make recommendations to managers and executives about priorities, schedules, resource allocations, and process improvements
Skills + Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business or a technical field such as Computer Science
- 5+ years of software project management experience, including 2+ years of experience as a lead project manager
- Proven record of delivering projects on time and in full to internal and external customers
- Demonstrated experience with multiple project management methodologies, including experience working with Agile software development teams using methodologies like Scrum
- Experience with Agile project tracking tools like Jira, Rally, Version One, and Trello
- Excellent problem problem-solving skills. Ability to find multiple workarounds to problems
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
