Senior Software Engineer

Site Reliability Engineers are hybrid systems and software engineers who are responsible for and take ownership of reliability, automation, and other issues related to dataxu's infrastructure. We are seeking highly motivated engineers interested in developing, maintaining, and scaling the next generation of the dataxu platform. Your goal will be to think big, innovate, and simplify dataxu's infrastructure and its management.
On the Job
- Work as part of a team building and operating a global platform in AWS and colocated datacenters that can scale to handle services that must process millions of requests per second
- You will design the system and processes that dataxu engineers use to deploy their software into production
- You will create shared services that can be consumed by different engineering teams
- You will help design systems to automatically resolve production incidents before passing them to on-call engineers
- Practice sustainable incident response and blameless postmortems
- Participate in design and architecture review meetings to ensure dataxu engineering teams are building the best services possible
- Focus on availability, latency, performance, efficiency, change management, config management, monitoring, emergency response, and capacity planning
- Be involved in the full life-cycle of systems, from conception, design, implementation, through deployment and support
About You
- 5+ years building and operating services in production
- Experience working directly on infrastructure and operations
- Mastery of Go, Java, or C/C++
- Familiarity with at least one of Python, Ruby, or Perl
- Skilled working at the command line, writing shell scripts, and using common tools for debugging
- Solid understanding of Linux internals and networking concepts (DNS, TCP/IP, BGP)
- Willingness to learn what you don't now and read documentation to fill in those gaps
- Experience with one of AWS, GCP, or Azure
- Able to partake in a 24/7 on-call rotation
- Understanding of the importance of automation, infrastructure as code, least privileged, risk management, and other common DevOps practices
Additional Preferred Experience
- Experience designing production services in Go, Python, and a little C.
- You've built services in AWS and are familiar with services they provide (EC2, IAM, Kinesis, S3, CloudFormation)
- Experience with using Kubernetes and Docker in production
- Exposure to configuration management (Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Salt)
- You are a devotee of continuous improvement
- You love infrastructure and are passionate about what you do
- Strong desire and willingness to learn new technologies
