The Teaching & Learning engineering team at edX is responsible for building the platform that our partner institutions use to build innovative learning experiences, and delivers these experiences to millions of learners around the world. Our growing team is looking to hire a S/W Development Lead who is passionate about education and online learning. In this role you will work with other leaders in the Teaching and Learning organization to design and implement features that enable rich learner experiences. 

 

The successful candidate:

  • Will provide hands-on technical leadership to a team of 6/8 software engineer
  • Will work with direct reports to identify career pathway and supporting professional development needs.
  • Has great communication skills and enjoys mentoring team members in all aspects of their jobs.
  • Is a team player who understands the importance of collaboration across organizational boundaries.
  • Will work directly with Product Management and UX.
  • Has a strong background in Agile software development and understands and can evangelize the value proposition, not simply the practices.
  • Practices a “you build it, you run it” philosophy to software development and delivery.
Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
  • 8+ years software development experience.
  • 2+ years in a team lead role.
  • Understanding of distributed architecture.

Plusses


  • Front end experience, CSS, Javascript, HTML, is highly desirable.
  • Experience working on distributed SaaS platforms is desirable.
  • Experience with digital accessibility and/or automated accessibility evaluation tools (Chrome Accessibility Developer Tools, pa11y, aXe, etc.)
  • Familiarity with WCAG 2.0 and WAI-ARIA
