5 tech events you shouldn't miss in Boston this week

Every week, we bring you the best events in Boston tech. This week's roundup includes an Amazon web services meetup, a discussion about creating resilient apps, and a startup showcase where attendees can learn about seven new companies at Akamai’s offices. Java and Microservices: Spring, Hysterix, Eureka and Labs, October 11 at 6 p.m.

Ravi Jagannathan, a platform architect at Pivotal and a frequent speaker at industry events, will demo a Fortune Teller web application that displays fortune cookies. The event will be held at Akamai at 150 Broadway in Cambridge.

Boston Amazon Web Services Meetup, October 11 at 6:30 p.m.

Richard Crane, Chief Architect and Technology Officer of MILL5, a boutique product and consulting company, will discuss a soon-to-be-released PaaS offering [from MILL5] that will allow financial analysts, scientists, and developers to create REST-based services in the cloud to quickly expose models and applications. They will examine various aspects of the architecture using AWS and how technologies such as ELB, SQS, S3, Lambda, consul, docker and PostgreSQL fit within the architecture. They will also discuss challenges such as service routing, discovery, and deployment. The event will be held at Amazon Cambridge Offices at 101 Main St. in Cambridge.

Resilient Apps with Angular 2 (and Service Workers), October 12 at 6 p.m.

In this talk, Giorgio Natili, an engineering lead at McGraw-Hill Education will discuss the process of designing and implementing production-ready resilient apps with Angular 2, TypeScript and Redux. There will be pizza, beverages and plenty of opportunities for networking. The event will be held at Bocoup at 201 South Street in Boston.

Ghost in the Search Machine, October 12 at 6 p.m.

Doug Turnbull, an Elasticsearch consultant for OpenSource Connections and author of Relevant Search, will be presenting an overview of search engine internals and will show how to turn Elasticsearch into a smart comparison powerhouse for your organization. Elasticsearch can be used to detect at-risk students, predict the weather and find similar images at high scale.

Boston New Technology October 2016 Startup Showcase, October 12 at 6 p.m.

At this free event attendees can come learn about seven innovative and exciting technology products while networking with the Boston/Cambridge startup community. Each presenter gets five minutes for product demonstration and five minutes for Q&A. Follow @BostonNewTech and use the #BNT70 hashtag in social media posts if you want to get involved. The event will be held at Akamai Technologies at 150 Broadway in Cambridge.
