These 4 Boston subscription box services are solving your food and beverage needs

From organic grass-fed beef to carefully-selected wines, subscription boxes are gaining in popularity. New Boston startups are popping up all the time with the goal of helping you curate and simplify your life and we’ve rounded up four subscription box services with Massachusetts roots.

If you love eating vegetables, The Purple Carrot is for you. The Needham-based startup creates tasty plant-based recipes each week and delivers fresh, perfectly-portioned ingredients to your doorstep. From sesame-crusted tofu steaks to spicy jackfruit and bell pepper fajitas, The Purple Carrot’s plant-based meals help you eat healthier while improving your cooking skills. Eating more plants also helps the environment by conserving water, reducing emissions and protecting farmland.

Just Add Cooking lets users select a meal plan from an array of menu options, and then sit back and relax as the company does the shopping, packing and delivering for you. Once the pre-measured, fresh and local ingredients are delivered to your doorstep, just follow the instructions to prepare your dinner and enjoy. The best part? Meals typically take no more than half an hour to make.

Love good wine but know almost nothing about it? The brainchild of two MIT grads, Bright Cellars is a subscription wine experience that matches members with personalized monthly selections. Users take a “Wine Quiz” with questions that help Bright Cellars’ unique algorithm build their flavor profile using 18 attributes. Based on their answers, Bright Cellars then matches users with four wines, which are shipped to them for $60 each month. The more wines users review, the more accurate their matches will become.

ButcherBox’s founder Mike Salguero was first introduced to 100 percent grass-fed beef through a local farmer who sold ¼ and ½ shares of cattle. After trying it, he was hooked, preferring the natural taste and health advantages of grass-fed over grain-fed beef. His Cambridge-based startup aims to make delicious, organic beef, pork and poultry more widely available to consumers, who can get boxes of meat delivered to their doorsteps for $129 per month.
